“But the love of wilderness is more than a hunger for what is always beyond reach;
it is also an expression of loyalty to the earth which bore us and sustains us,
the only home we shall ever know,
the only paradise we ever need—if only we had the eyes to see” – Edward Abbey
For millennia, our ancestors on all continents have spent ceremonial time away from the community, alone in the local natural landscape. It is only recently that we have moved further and further away from an innate, organic relationship with the world around us.
The programs in this series are geared towards developing a renewed intimate relationship with the natural world, and rediscovering our place in the interconnected web of life. They help us to reconnect with the cycles and seasons of the world around us, with animals and plants, with creeks and rocks, with earth and sky. In the process of tracking the outer landscape, we connect with our internal landscape, with the seasons of our own life.
There is a wide variety of programs, all including a time of solitude in a natural setting. The length of alone time may be less than an hour, or 4 days and nights, or anything in between.
The longer programs are offered sporadically and on request. Please contact us if you would like us to develop a program for your group.
